Hawaiʻi Opera Theatre Family Day

Join us for this FREE event!
 
In celebration of the first day of the Lunar New Year of the Dragon, bring the family out to enjoy HOT’s Opera Express touring company who will be perform, The Curse of Lou-Ling, a keiki friendly adaptation of Puccini’s opera Turandot, including teaching the sing-along portion of the show.
 
At 10am we will be kicking off the festivities for the day with a Lion Dance performance from Gee Yung Martial Arts Dragon & Lion Dance Sports Association. The program will also include a performance from Ballet Hawaiʻi and the Hawaiʻi Youth Opera Chorus.

Free Holiday Concert from the Mae Z Orvis Opera Studio

Celebrate the season with a FREE concert featuring singers from Hawaiʻi Opera Theatre’s Mae Z. Orvis Opera Studio on Saturday, December 16th at Kawaiahaʻo Church. The program will feature selections from opera and musical theatre as well as holiday favorites. The concert will last approximately one hour – consider taking in the beautiful Honolulu City Lights displays afterwards. Tickets are not necessary but more information can be found at www.hawaiiopera.org.

Free Studio Events with San Francisco Opera Center’s Mark Morash

 

Maestro Mark Morash is back in Honolulu!  Morash, the Director of Musical Studies at the San Francisco Opera Center, visits HOT each year to work with members of the Orvis Young Voices Studio and Orvis Opera Studio.  The work culminates in a free public performances for each group.

Mark Morash is a conductor and pianist originally from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. He currently serves as the director of musical studies for San Francisco Opera Center. He has led productions and concerts with the Merola Opera Program and Western Opera Theater and in recent years, led performances of Rigoletto with Opera Colorado as well as Don Giovanni and The Turn of the Screw for the Lincoln Theater in Yountville, California. His work with the San Francisco Opera Center has included such varied repertoire as Così fan tutte, Die Fledermaus, The Merry Wives of Windsor, The Barber of Seville, Donizetti’s Rita, Pasatieri’s The Seagull and Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia. He last appeared at Opera Santa Barbara in a double bill of La Serva Padrona and Trouble in Tahiti. He has appeared in recital with such renowned artists as Michael Schade, Leah Crocetto, Elza van den Heever and Quinn Kelsey, as well as performing with numerous emerging singers in San Francisco Opera Center’s esteemed Schwabacher Debut Recitals. As a guest teacher, he has given master classes at opera programs, universities and opera companies throughout the U.S. and Canada as well as a residency in Christ Church, New Zealand through the Kia Ora Foundation.
