A torch song can be defined as “a sentimental love song of unrequited or lost love.”. Join us for one night only, as Leslie Goldman takes us on a heartfelt journey of torch songs through the ages.

A live radio show featuring musical hits of 1940s Jazz, Swing, Big Band, Blues, the Great American Songbook, and the Golden Age of Hawaiian. Featuring an updated script from the sold-out 2021 production. Includes high tea, dessert, champagne, and a cast meet and greet after the show.

HOT Blue Hawai’i

A nostalgic evening that showcases a love of the islands with song and dance from the Golden Age of Hawai’i. Starring Mezzo-Soprano Blythe Iakuinipua’okahana Kelsey, Soprano Leslie Goldman, Maestro Eric Schank, and hula with Kumu Candy Pollack and Halau Na Wahine O Ka Hula Mai Ka Pu’uwai. Don your best vintage aloha wear and arrive early for dancing and drinks!

Mele Maui: A Benefit Performance

Wednesday, October 18 at 6 PM

Live performance and fundraiser supporting Maui relief efforts. 100% of proceeds will be dedicated to providing vital aid to the island’s most affected communities. Featuring visiting artists from our production, An American Dream, and our local HOT ‘ohana.

Vocal Recital

Friday, September 22 at 6 PM

A FREE event featuring HOT Young Artist Bass Robert Ellsworth Feng & HOT Orvis Studio Artist Soprano Emily Vidler in a vocal recital of arias and duets with a little something in-between. *Tickets are required for entry.

We’ve all heard that one bad breakup story, but now, it’s time to listen to another POV.  Follow this journey of love with HOT’s Young Artist Robert Ellsworth Feng in his debut performance of Dichterliebe, (A Poet’s Love). Enjoy this creative (and a not-so-traditional) take on the best-known song cycle by Schumann combined with old-school country tunes for the ultimate story of love.

HOT H2O: Water Songs

Guests cooled off in STUDIO 101 with Hawai’i Opera Theatre’s premiere pop-up event, HOT H2O: Water Songs, a summer concert with cocktails. Local talent took audiences on a musical journey featuring water-inspired songs of jazz, blues, pop, classical, and the golden age of Hawaiian just in time to splash into summer.

In celebration of Hawai’i Opera Theatre’s 2022 Opera Ball: The Butterfly Emerges and acclaimed production of Madame Butterfly, HOT was proud to introduced COLLECTION CHŌ by Anne Namba. Guests experienced COLLECTION CHŌ live on the Studio 101 runway while being serenaded by the exhilarating musical duo of HOT’s very own mezzo-soprano Blythe Kelsey and Maestro Eric Schank. The runway never sounded better!

I’LL BE SEEING YOU: 1940’S RADIO HOUR

We stepped back in time to the 1940’s with an evening dedicated to the influence of WWII celebrating the American musical renaissance—where Jazz, Swing, Big Band, the Blues, and the Golden Age of Hawaiian Music not only topped the charts but provided comfort to troops and civilians alike. HOT’s singing sirens of the seven seas transported guests to the sound stage of KHOT Radio 101, broadcasting LIVE from Hawai’i Opera Plaza for just four brief engagements. Created and directed by HOT Artistic Program Officer, Jamie Offenbach, this special presentation starred the talented artists of Hawai‘i Opera Theatre’s Mae Z. Orvis Opera Studio in a holiday tribute to the music that connected us near and far over airwaves, around the world!
