Things kick off in October with a gorgeous operatic telling of one of literature’s most beloved stories, The Secret Garden, by composer Nolan Gasser and librettist Carey Harrison. Directed by our own Karen Tiller, the cast is headed up by soprano Laura Corina Sanders in her HOT debut, and rising local talent, tenor Taka Komagata. The production will be conducted by Elizabeth Askren, who is making a name for herself throughout the US and Europe.
In February, love is in the air with Donizetti’s charming comedy, Elixir of Love, sung in a witty English translation by Donald Pippin of San Francisco’s Pocket Opera. The fantastic ensemble cast includes soprano Natalie Image, tenor Andrew Stetson and baritone Efrain Solis with director Maria Todaro, all making their HOT debuts. Benjamin Makino returns to conduct.
The final offering for the mainstage season is Puccini’s only comic opera, Gianni Schicchi. The one-act marvel stars a world-class cast including local favorites Blythe Kelsey and Leslie Goldman, baritone Joshua Jeremiah in the title role, and soprano Toni Marie Palmertree and tenor Brian Vu.
