The GenHOT Advisory Board
During the 2014-15 Opera Season, the GenHOT initiative began in support of the fundraising effort surrounding HOT’s largest annual fundraiser, the Opera Ball. Prior to the start of the 2015-16 Opera Season, the GenHOT concept evolved when HOT announced the creation of the GenHOT Advisory Board, an official advisory group to HOT. GenHOT Advisory Board Members are accomplished young contributors to various professional and civic sectors here in Hawaii interested in helping HOT achieve the following goals.
- increase the attendance of those under 40 at HOT performances;
- further corporate giving and fundraising; and
- develop the next generation of HOT Board members.
To that end, the specific functions of the GenHOT Advisory Board will be to plan preview events targeted at young professionals in advance of each opera; host a special “GenHOT” after-party the night of the Opera Ball; assist in fundraising and corporate giving; oversee a social media strategy for GenHOT, and such other functions as the Advisory Board members determine during this inaugural year of the program. TheGenHOT Advisory Board will meet once a month to coordinate and plan these events.
GenHOT Advisory Board members will learn first-hand from industry leaders what it means to serve on a nonprofit board, plus have the opportunity to network and socialize with peers interested in the Arts and Opera. GenHOT Advisory Board membership opens the door to various HOT events (such as the Annual HOT Meeting for Members and other Board member-exclusive events) as well as a one-on-one mentorship program with HOT Board members.
