Learn More About the Opera this Spring

Opera Highlights, taught by Dr. Lynne Johnson, returns this Spring!

This course on Opera Highlights is offered through the UH Outreach program and focuses on the upcoming HOT productions.  This course will examine Benjamin Britten’s beautiful A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Verdi’s epic masterpiece, Il Trovatore.

This course will be held over two meetings on Feb 4 and May 5, 2016, from 7:00-9:00pm, at UHM Music Rm. 36. The cost to attend this series is $30. Anyone interested can register through the UH Outreach College or online at here.

Dr. Lynne Johnson received her MA in musicology in 2001 and her PhD in musicology in 2009 from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Her dissertation is entitled, Franz Liszt and Camille Saint-Saëns: Friendship, Mutual Support, and Influence. Her article, “Camille Saint-Saëns Changing Exoticism and the Interesting Case of La Foi,” was published in the January–March 2006 edition of the Journal of Musicological Research. Her article “Saint-Saëns’s 1978 Concert of Liszt’s Orchestral and Choral Works: a New Perspective” was published in 2012 in Liszt et La France: Musique, Culture et Société dans l’Europe du XIXe Siècle.

Dr. Johnson teaches classes in music history at UH Mānoa, including Introduction to Music Literature (MUS 106), Music of the Romantic Era (MUS 461f), and Symphonic Music (MUS 463b)
