Viva Verdi! Aida
Orginally commissioned by an Egyptian noble in 1871, Aida remains a challenge due to its large scope. This will be one of HOT's largest production in recent seasons. It will feature expanded forces in the chorus (as large as Don Carlo) and orchestra.
During these tough economic times, Hawaii Opera Theatre remains committed to producing high-quality and meaningful opera and is being proactive to remain fiscally responsible. In doing so, we have sought ways to manage this large-scale production without compromising artistic quality, including re-interpreting and focusing the opera on the tale of three star-crossed lovers, which reduces the expense of Egyptian costuming and body makeup for the entire cast. Additionally, we are refurbishing an old set and keeping it very neutral, but this is not enough.
