The 2016-17 Opera Season – Opera with Passion

Welcome to HOT’s new season of operas: a season of love and passion told through timeless stories and beautiful melodies!

Our season begins and ends with the tale of a lovelorn poet, Puccini’s tragic hero, Rudolfo, in the ever-popular masterpiece, La Boheme and the poet Hoffman, who falls for a series of unachievable women in Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann.  And in between, we have Tennessee Williams’ steamy drama set in New Orleans, A Streetcar Named Desire (remember the 1951 movie version starring Vivien Leigh and Marlon Brando?).

In a new venture for HOT, we are presenting Jake Heggie’s Three Decembers at the Hawaii Theatre. This 90-minute one-act opera was written in 2008 for the great American mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade, and we are delighted to have her here in Hawaii to perform it for us with the other original cast members.

Don’t miss on this veritable feast of music and drama with Hawaii Opera Theatre!
